this is the inspiration (vol.8)

Monday, September 10, 2012

photographs and images that inspire me are usually those that are far removed from what i am comfortable with. i try not to look at too many wedding or portrait photographs because, although many are beautiful and evocative, it is a genre i am too familiar with. The danger when i am photographing weddings or lovely couples is that i will go into 'panic mode' and think about all the awesome wedding pictures i've seen and try to emulate other photographers work, rather than just be me. every photographic opportunity is a challenge and an adventure. photography for me is about creating something unique and pushing myself to do something different.

i started this inspiration series a couple years ago, and the last time i posted was 2010, so i figured it was time to start it again. lately, i've been really interested in a different kinds of photography, where things don't look quite 'real'. i love how mystical these images feel, and i'm itching to find out how they were created, and start to create some of my own.

a little inspired

Thursday, September 3, 2009

i'm a little bit excited! i've just produced my first piece of artwork! inspired by the book this lady wrote, i decided to give mixed media collages a go. using bits of fabric, pages of magazines, buttons, paint, stamps, gel medium, gesso and charcoal i put together a mish mash of all sorts of things...it was really good to get away from the every day busy-ness of everything and get a bit messy.

it's not perfect, but i like how it turned out...now...what's next?!
